Laura Roemer has been a dedicated New York therapist in private practice for over fifteen years. She earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Hunter College’s Silberman School of Social Work in New York City and completed multiple advanced Post-Master’s clinical certifications through New York University.

Her extensive training includes specializing in couples and family therapy at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy, as well as Bereavement Counseling and Oncology Social Work through CancerCare New York. She has also received advanced training in relational couples therapy with renowned family therapist Terry Real and is currently completing certification in Imago Relationship Therapy, training with the acclaimed Drs. Harville Hendrix and Helen Hunt, the authors of Getting the Love You Want.

Earlier in her career, Laura gained wide-ranging experience as an addiction specialist and group therapist at substance abuse clinics in the Bronx and Brooklyn. She also provided both group and individual counseling in Adult Day Health Care settings, supporting LGBTQIA+ and HIV-positive individuals with affirming, culturally sensitive care.

Before becoming a therapist, Laura earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting and a Master’s of Fine Arts in Theatre, enjoying a vibrant career as a writer, performer, and dramaturg Off-Broadway. This creative background informs her empathetic, dynamic approach to therapy and gives her a unique understanding of the challenges faced by artists and creatives.

As a lifelong New Yorker with over fifteen years of experience as a NYC-based therapist, Laura recognizes the city’s unique stressors and works with clients to find a healthy balance between work and personal life. She helps foster resilience and well-being, supporting clients in maintaining their goals and thriving amidst life’s demands.

Laura is currently working towards certification as an Imago Relationship Therapist through Imago Relationships North America.
