About Laura Roemer, LCSW

I am a dedicated therapist with over fifteen years of clinical experience. I combine my professional expertise with deep empathy to help individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges through in-person and online therapy across NYC. I am also a lifelong New Yorker, and my office is located in the heart of downtown, in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan. 

Education & Professional Training

I earned my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Hunter College’s Silberman School of Social Work in New York City. I have also completed multiple advanced Post-Master’s clinical certifications through New York University.


My training includes:

  • Couples and Family Therapy at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy

  • Bereavement Counseling and Oncology Social Work through CancerCare New York

  • Relational Couples Therapy with family therapist and author Terry Real

  • Ongoing certification in Imago Relationship Therapy with Drs. Harville Hendrix and Helen Hunt, authors of Getting the Love You Want

Clinical Experience

Earlier in my career, I worked as an addiction specialist and substance-abuse counselor in NYC, leading both group and individual therapy sessions.  

I also provided affirming and culturally sensitive clinical care for LGBTQIA+ and HIV-positive adults at community-based programs throughout Manhattan, The Bronx, and in Brooklyn.

A Therapist for Creatives

Before becoming a therapist, I earned degrees in acting and theatre from New York University and Brooklyn College, spending years working Off-Broadway as a writer, actor, and dramaturg. My creative background informs my empathetic, dynamic approach to therapy and gives me unique  insight into the emotional landscape of artists and performers living and working in New York City.

Myoffice is conveniently located near Washington Square and Union Square Parks in Greenwich Village, offering a peaceful and confidential setting for individual, couples, family and group therapy.

I also provides online therapy for New York State residents seeking flexibility and privacy.
